Installation
Installation of Charta is simple. Just unzip the downloaded file to the folder you want. Charta can be started by double clicking Charta.exe. For extra information about the installation and use of the demo also in the .zip file view the following sub article:
Please note that Charta will automatically create a database file called charta.data when Charta is started for the first time. To keep the all files belonging to Charta together, it will be handy to put Charta in its own empty folder.
If charta.data is already present and Charta cannot start properly, the newer version of Charta probably is not compatible with the older version. You will first have to remove all data files manually. After that, Charta should start fine but unfortunately there is a risk that your data will be lost, because at the moment Charta is not guaranteed to be backwards compatible because of its beta status. To prevent this use the export as XML function to export the .data file to a XML file. This XML file can then be imported in the new version.
Current status
Charta is still very much in development and this is noticeable when you are working with it. But, some people with modest needs might already find the current version useful. Also, people who just want to know more about Charta and try things out themselves are encouraged to download Charta.
